2023-2024 Ensemble Placement Auditions

Ensemble Placements:

Students who are planning to attend Orange High School in 2023-2024 and play a brass or woodwind instrument will submit an audition to be placed in the appropriate ensemble in the OHS Band program. While students will be enrolled in Marching Band in the fall, there are two concert ensembles in the spring: Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band. Wind Ensemble typically has 1-2 players on a part, and both groups will perform high quality repertoire. This audition submission serves to place students at the appropriate level in the ensemble best suited for their skill set. All percussionists will be placed into the Percussion Ensemble Class, and do not need to submit an audition. Only brass and woodwinds will need to submit an audition for ensemble placement.

Students may make the recording on their phone, computer, or whichever method works best. Record as many takes as you need, and submit the one you are happiest with. Do not stress over this-- all students will be placed in the ensemble where they will be the most successful! Rising 9th Graders: your middle school band experience has prepared you for high school band!

Audition Instructions:

Each solo excerpt has three markings. The first one labeled in green is where the student should "Start" playing. The next marking is in orange and is where students should "Stop" playing if they are not interested in auditioning for Wind Ensemble (Honors Level Class). The final label in red is where students should "End" if they wish to be considered for Wind Ensemble.

Recordings are due by Friday, May 5th, at 11:59 pm. You will submit your band audition HERE


All band members should be enrolled in their ensemble year-round (both semesters), unless a student is unable to participate in Marching Band in the fall due to sports that have direct conflicts with the marching band schedule.
